Student Partner

Designing a token-based resale system to facilitate the secondary market for ECE kits — reducing cost and turnaround time for students while preserving verification integrity.

The Problem

Each year, ECE students are required to purchase AD3 kits at full cost, despite many usable kits already existing within the program. These kits often go unused after courses end, with no structured way to resell or verify their condition. As a result, students face unnecessary financial strain while valuable resources are left idle.

The absence of a trusted resale system creates inefficiencies in both cost and distribution. This project addresses that gap by introducing a structured, reliable approach to reusing existing kits.

The System

The system introduces a token-based resale process that separates verification from the transaction itself. Kits are first inspected, and verified sellers are issued a token representing authenticity and usability. This token can then be transferred to a buyer, ensuring trust without requiring repeated manual checks.

The approach reduces administrative involvement while maintaining system integrity. By structuring the process this way, the system enables scalable, low-overhead exchanges between students while preserving accountability and consistency across all transactions.

The Impact

Projected savings of $180,000+ annually per student batch. Reduced turnaround time. Low administrative overhead. The system was designed with traceability and privacy compliance built in from the ground up — not bolted on after.
Beyond cost savings, the project establishes a sustainable model that can adapt to different scales depending on student demand. It demonstrates how thoughtful system design can improve both efficiency and accessibility within an academic environment.
